| Replacing Filter with Email Communities Eliminates Attacks and Saves Over Three IT Man-Days per Month in Maintenance Time |
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - January 12, 2010 - Sendio, Inc., developer of the only email system protection solution to utilize self-managing email communities which totally eliminate attacks and abuse, today announced that Sunsweet Growers Inc., the world’s largest handler of dried tree fruits, has implemented Sendio Email System Protection. Replacing the GWAVA email filtering components on Sunsweet’s Novell GroupWise collaboration server, Sendio reduced system load over 93% by eliminating all of the 33,500 average daily “junk” email messages that bombarded the company. In addition, the Sendio solution allows the Sunsweet IT department to save over three man-days per month that were previously required to manually maintain the email filtering software.
“We rely on email for sales orders from customers and to communicate with suppliers and partners around the world,” said Terrell Johnson, senior systems administrator at Sunsweet. “The software we had in place prior to Sendio required us to ‘feed’ its blacklists and whitelists manually, and tag messages as either ‘spam’ or ‘ham’ in the hope that the system would better understand the next time what should be delivered and what should be dropped. It was a time consuming guessing game that was always one step behind the curve. Sendio took a different approach to the problem and was finally able to solve it.”
Sunsweet’s GroupWise server was receiving an average of 36,000 email messages each day, only 2,500 of which were legitimate business email. Even after processing by the previous solution was complete, many users were still seeing over 100 junk messages a day in their inboxes. And from an administrative perspective, IT personnel spent time sorting through junk folders on a daily basis to ensure that legitimate messages had not been blocked. After deploying Sendio in two phases to allow the system to organize company-wide and individual email communities via contact import and outbound message processing, the GroupWise server’s receipt of junk mail was eliminated and IT time spent managing email decreased from nearly twenty-five hours a month to “virtually zero.”
“We were told that Sunsweet’s president directed his IT team to find a totally different strategy to address their problems with email attacks and abuse,” said Peter Ombres, president of Sendio. “We’re pleased that their research led them to Sendio, and that our technology has once again been able to completely eliminate malicious email for a major organization. After nearly seven years of remaining completely focused on email system protection, it’s clear to us that Sendio’s model of self-managing email communities is the only technology that offers a definitive solution to the problems Sunsweet and so many other companies are experiencing. And, we have designed it in a way that does not require continuous maintenance or updates like email content filters do.”
