Penn State Hospitality Services Stops Spam with Sendio

Penn State Hospitality Services Stops Spam with Sendio
Company Stops 1000+ unwanted emails that used to make it past its filters - every day

IRVINE, Calif. - April 22, 2008 - Sendio, Inc., Penn State Hospitality Services ? which runs several on?campus hotels at Penn State University ? has eliminated its spam problem thanks to Sendio, Inc. (www.sendio.com), the enterprise email integrity company whose products ensure that users receive all legitimate email messages but block all viruses, bots, phishing attacks and spam. Michael Corsello, Manager of Network and Information Systems for Penn State Hospitality Services, says that “The I.C.E. Box paid for itself within days. Our 200 active email users were receiving 7,000 – 8,000 emails per day and 80% were spam. The Sendio I.C.E. Box completely eliminated the spam and has made a positive impact on bandwidth because our Exchange servers aren’t getting choked with unsolicited emails anymore.”

Previously, Penn State Hospitality Services was using two separate filter products from GFI, Bayesian filters, whitelisting and keyword checking, which caught about 80% of the incoming spam. However, some users in Corsello’s department were still getting hundreds of spam messages every day. Corsello started looking for a solution that would complement GFI and make it 100% effective. After investigating the Sendio I.C.E. Box, Corsello was happy with the prospect of having one solution that eliminated 100% of spam instead of three separate ones that had to complement and integrate with each other. Sendio and the I.C.E. Box could do everything he needed – provide complete email integrity – with less complexity. “I did the 30?day free trial and after four days, I was sold. I would not give it up. I am happy ? and my users are so happy."

Kevin Bowyer, CEO of Sendio, commented that “We are excited to be working with a great organization like Penn State. Like many organizations, their professionals were overwhelmed with unwanted emails even though they had a spam filter in place. Sendio not only solved a technical problem, but we also solved a business problem: we gave them their email back.”

Sendio’s I.C.E. Box is a stand?alone email security appliance that controls both the inbound and outbound flow of email messages. Incoming communications from known senders are authenticated, scanned for viruses and then delivered immediately to the appropriate inboxes. Email from previously unknown senders is “challenged” to verify that the sender is not an automated spam generator sending messages anonymously. Only legitimate email is forwarded on to the server. Similarly, outbound messages are checked to ensure that no “malware” is being sent inadvertently to other businesses. The I.C.E. Box scales from hundreds of users to tens of thousands, and can process email in any language.
